Aftercare Guide

Essential steps for lasting results

Your artist will apply a protective bandage after your session. Keep it on for the time they recommend — typically 2 to 4 hours, or overnight if using a medical-grade adhesive wrap. This protects the fresh tattoo from bacteria and environmental irritants during the initial healing window.
After removing the bandage, wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use your fingertips — never a washcloth or sponge. Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Repeat 2-3 times daily for the first two weeks.
Apply a very thin layer of the ointment recommended by your artist (such as Aquaphor or a specialized tattoo balm) after each wash. Less is more — a thick layer can suffocate the skin and slow healing. After the first 3-4 days, switch to an unscented moisturizer.
Direct sunlight, pools, hot tubs, saunas, and the ocean are your tattoo's enemies during healing. UV exposure fades fresh ink rapidly, and submerging a healing tattoo introduces bacteria. Stay out of the water and cover or shade the area when outdoors for at least two weeks.
As your tattoo heals, it will flake and itch — this is normal. Resist the urge to pick, scratch, or peel the skin. Doing so can pull ink out and leave patchy spots. If itching is unbearable, gently tap the area or apply a light layer of moisturizer.

Yes. Several of our artists specialize in cover-up work. Cover-ups require a consultation so the artist can evaluate the existing tattoo and discuss design options. The approach depends on the size, color density, and placement of the original piece. Schedule a free consultation to explore your options.
